The sealed TCG product market (boosters, displays, ETBs…) is constantly evolving. Some products gain value over time, others stagnate or decline. But how do you know where your collection stands?
That's exactly the question SealedTCG's Sealed Score answers.
What Is the Sealed Score?
The Sealed Score is a trend indicator rated from 0 to 100. It synthesizes several market factors into a single number, giving you a quick read on the dynamics of a sealed product.
It's not a prediction or buying advice. It's an analytical tool based on objective, verifiable data.
Each product receives a score with an accompanying label:
- Strong trend (75-100): the product shows positive signals across multiple criteria.
- Stable trend (40-74): the product is evolving without significant variation.
- Weak trend (0-39): indicators show a slowdown or decline.
The 3 Pillars of the Score
The Sealed Score is built on three sub-scores, each measuring a different aspect of the market.
1. Product Age (0-20 points)
The age of a sealed product plays a key role in its market dynamics. A recent product hasn't proven itself yet, while a product that's been around for several years has weathered different market phases.
This sub-score evaluates the product's maturity since its release date. Products between 2 and 8 years old score highest, reflecting a period where scarcity starts tipping the scales.
2. TCG Momentum (0-30 points)
Not all TCGs are equal when it comes to the market. Some brands benefit from massive communities, regular competitive events, and significant media coverage. Others are still in their growth phase.
This sub-score reflects the overall health of the game's ecosystem: community size, secondary market activity, news and recent releases.
3. Price Evolution (0-50 points)
This is the most important pillar, and therefore carries the most weight. It measures the market price progression relative to the original retail price (MSRP) since the product's release.
A product whose price has doubled in two years will score high. A product selling below its original price will show a low score. The calculation uses the Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) to fairly compare products of different ages.
Price History
Alongside the score, SealedTCG displays a price evolution chart on each product's page. You can view the trend across different time periods: 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, or all time.
This chart lets you see concretely how the price has evolved and put the Sealed Score into context.
Reading the Score in Your Collection
In the collection view, each product displays a compact badge with the score and a trend arrow. This lets you identify at a glance which products are performing and which deserve your attention.
For products in your wishlist, the reading is inverted: a high score means an expensive product (bad time to buy), while a low score may indicate an opportunity.
Limitations and Transparency
The Sealed Score is a decision-support tool, not an absolute truth. Here's what it doesn't account for:
- Announced or upcoming reprints
- One-off events (YouTube hype, card bans…)
- Product condition
- Regional price variations
